Getting Around the Festival

Bath is a small city and easy to get round on foot, but it’s also well served by city buses into the evening.
Larkhall (Rondo Theatre) is on buses 6A&7.
Burdall’s Yard is an easy stroll from the centre, but also on bus routes via London Road, eg. 3, 13, X31, 231, 228, 271, 272, 273. Those same buses would take you to Lambridge, not far at all from Larkhall, and a couple of stops further on – just after the big roundabout – the stop for the Avon Rugby & Football Club field.
Bath University is on regular buses U1 & U2, also U3, U5 and probably more, but NB the timetable changes half-way through Fringe time and is much reduced thereafter.
Bath Jewish Burial Ground is in Combe Down on bus no.2
Roseberry Road, use 5, 5a, U5
Roper Theatre, Hayesfield Girls School is close by bus 12, but not far at all [and downhill] from a stop on the Wells Road [St. Mary’s Buildings] from which you can equally have pretty level access to the Magdalen Chapel on Holloway – 171-5, 4, 8, 13, D2
Bus 19 will take you to Fairfield House, It would also take you to the bottom of a fairish hill below Kelson Barn, though it’s definitely worth it when you get there. Return journeys may have stopped before the end of the show tho’.
To get to Radstock on a Sunday you need bus 174.

Getting Back Late

Trains run back to Bristol late, at minimum frequency about hourly, until just after 1am, except on Sunday when it’s 23.35. The last train to Chippenham, Swindon, and on to London leaves at 23.05 every night; on Saturdays it’s 22.45 but there’s a 23.44 to Chippenham & Swindon, on Sunday 22.43. You can get back to Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury & Frome till 00.04 on a weekday, and 23.24 on Saturday, and to the first 3 of those at 23.43 on Sunday, but Frome is ignored on Sunday when the last train is 21.07. Check engineering work and timetable changes if you’re aiming for the last one of the night, there’s a bit of Replacement Bus bug about.

Buses to Bristol via Saltford & Keynsham run all night at least hourly till 03.10 (except Sunday, at 23.00), and there are now night buses to the suburbs from Bristol city centre. Buses run to Bradford & Trowbridge till 23.15 every day (23.20 Saturday) except Sunday (20.22); and to Frome at 23.20 except for Saturday when it’s 23.25, but don’t even think about it on Sundays (18.55) – what is it with Frome and Sundays? You can head back to Radstock & Norton and even Paulton, Chewton Mendip or Wells at 00.10 except on Sundays when it’s a pretty decent 23.10 – on Saturdays, Peasedown even gets an 00.50; Box, Corsham & Chippenham get a late bus on weekdays at 23.10, and 23.20 on Saturdays; Melksham & Devizes get a 23.15 on weekdays, 23.20 Saturdays, but coming back from Sin City Bath on a Sunday evening is officially gallivanting, and you can’t do it.
